Yesterday was my daughter’s birthday. I treated her to a pedicure and cooked her favorite dinner—turkey burgers with french fries. In our family, birthday celebrations are an opportunity to “raise and praise.” So I honored and acknowledged my daughter, speaking affirmatively about everything she has created for herself, and all that the coming year has in store.
She is my oldest child, the one who made me a mother. She put me on the path to finding my fierce and loving—though it took me many years to realize it.
I was nineteen when I gave birth to her, under challenging circumstances, without loads of enthusiasm or support. When I watch the old VHS footage of her birth, I can see how scared I am. I was still a girl myself.
And yet what I also know, because that moment is etched into my soul forever, is that I was in a deep state of transformation and awakening. I was loosening my old identity. Up to that point, I had always been someone’s daughter. Now I was becoming someone’s mother.
I knew something else, too. I knew that this baby, this being, this life was meant to come through at that perfect moment in time.
Today, as I celebrate the launch of LolaWright.com and the Find Your Fierce & Loving podcast, I am in a deep state of reflection over what it means to birth something new into the world. For me, the word fierce is about being untamed, brave, and proud, living with heart-centered and powerful intensity. Loving speaks to both profound tenderness and passionate affection.
I have spent my entire adulthood expanding my own fierce and loving presence—and supporting others in claiming theirs. Given where we are in the evolution of humanity, a fierce and loving presence from you is needed on this planet now more than ever.
We are moving in a state that is unknown, unnerving, uncomfortable. We may find ourselves wondering, what awaits us on the other side of all this seeming turmoil?
Here is what I know to be true: what awaits us is of our creation. It is our movement, our making, our magic.
This journey is one of personal transformation, but not the kind of transformation that will leave you navel gazing. I invite you into a transformation that is always in service of our collective awakening. I know with every fiber of my being that when one of us lives more freely, humanity itself becomes freer.
We are not living in a time that is calling for your apologetic or timid contribution. We are calling for your fierce and loving life. We are asking you to set yourself on fire.
I invite you into the divine discontent of your life. Do not move away from that which scares you. Move toward it, into it. Trust that it is for you.
I invite you into purposeful disruption. We are living in a sleepy state. As you say yes to your purpose, you break through the noise and begin to dance with your fear.
I invite you to join me as a radical truth teller. To discover that we can transcend the drama and duality that keep us trapped in false binaries: us/them, either/or, Republican/Democrat, Black/white. When we weave the tapestry of humanity together, something much more powerful can emerge.
There is no dogma here, no judgment. Your way forward is yours and yours alone. I trust that you have everything within you to create your fierce and loving life, whatever that looks like to you.
There is magic in this darkness we are moving through. Our loneliness and despair are not to be ignored or pushed away. Our discomfort will lead us to something far vaster, deeper, and richer than the shallow waters we have been swimming in.
Last night, as my daughter’s birthday came to a close, I promised to continue to support the movement of her body, the expansion of her mind, and the awakening of her soul.
That is the journey I invite you on. A powerful, passionate transformation of body, mind, and soul.
