It can be really difficult to come up with new solutions when you’re constantly replaying the past and thinking within the paradigm you know. That’s how we repeat history.

As an influential leader, you have the opportunity to shape the transformation of how business and society operate by cultivating the extraordinary capacity to ideate new and innovative solutions to problems.

Here are three ways to get out of the obvious and into a space ripe for ideating truly new solutions and possibilities for yourself, your company, and the planet:

  1. Practice Whole Body Awareness
You cannot access the greatest solutions when you are constricted, gripping, or bracing in any area of your life. Practicing whole body awareness throughout your day—that is, being led not only by your thoughts, but also by the intelligence of your body and emotions—will help you move beyond limited thinking and unconscious, fear-based patterns.

  2. Increase Access to Creativity
Whole body awareness helps you move out of the reptilian, survival brain and into the prefrontal cortex, giving you access to the flexibility, fluidity, malleability, and pliability required for new ideas and possibilities to come to you. This higher state of consciousness opens access to a deep well of creativity. Intentionally moving your body, taking deep breaths, and creating moments of stillness throughout your day can also help open your creative channel.

  3. Get playful
When things feel serious, fewer solutions are accessible, and when we try to solve things too quickly, what was once an incredibly expansive horizon can become really myopic. Releasing the grip on finding “the” answer and bringing playfulness and imagination to the process creates space for new ideas and possibilities to surface.

Becoming a leader (and organization) that is skilled at ideating new solutions leads to entirely new possibilities and results—the kind that transform our way of being.
